approach

With sustainable design in mind, the main character features were retained, and all contemporary elements selected to work in harmony with the original conditions. The original curved ceiling was retained, and now extends to the outdoor space with the addition of a curved pergola structure. Designed to bring a green cover to the north facing entertainment area, the structure offers reprieve during the summer months, yet access to the warming sun in winter via large timber doors in the living space.

The renovation has an emphasis on bringing natural light in and engagement with the garden to create inviting and open social areas

Results

Timber detailing and curved shapes took inspiration from the cottage and its roof form with a contemporary twist that adapts to the modern lifestyle of the owners. The interface between the social areas and the outdoor is fluid, to create a sense of spacious living, in a cottage where the footprint of the house was not extended.

“This absolutely beautiful design also brings practicality, pragmatism and experience together to create an extraordinary project that suit our needs”
